The explorers Andersson and Galton reached Omambonde Tal in 1850 while searching for the legendary Omambonde lake, which they did not find, as it was not the rainy season.
What they did find was lots and lots of game! This they hunted to provide for their trackers and themselves. More of this part of our history can be read on the farm.
We, Marco and Alexandra, are the third generation of Düvel on farm Omambonde Tal.
Marcos grandparents, Walter and Inge Düvel, came to Namibia with their parents while still babies.
Walter Düvel bought the farm in 1947, being only 23 years old. He and Inge succeeded in making a living on the farm, although conditions were far from ideal.
The house, built by the farmers before them, was very old, with gaping holes in the walls, that let in snakes in summer and the cold in winter. The next little town, which actually only consisted of a post office and a small shop, was not easy to reach, as the road was deep sand in the dry season and deep mud when it rained. So the 40km took hours! Visits to their direct neighbours were the only social contact available.
Marcos parents, Udo and Sylvia bought the farm in 1984 from their parents, as this was the only pension they would have and they settled happily in Swakopmund for their old age.
