“Omambonde” means camelthorntree in the Herero language, so the farm name means Camelthorn Valley which can be seen in all its beauty from the red dune ( the dune is covered in vegetation) with its red sandstones.
Except for the Antelopes, Eland, Kudu, Oryx, Hartebeest, Steenbuck and Duiker, as well as Warthogs, there are Porcupine, Baboons, Brown hyena, Bat-eared fox, Serval, Caracal and other small wildcat, different hares ,honey badgers, Aardwolf, Aardvark, Jackal and different mangooses, who call Omambonde-Tal their home.
We counted about 150 species of birds over the years and there are probably more.
In the rainy season, the dam in front of the house sometimes fills up and the waterfowl and birds make their appearance, as well as bullfrogs , which will mate in a very short time to disappear again underground until the next good rainy season.
